The second issue of the Pirate Letter is about March 8, International Day for Women’s Rights. It is also the first international edition, written with Back Makers from our sister union CGT Catalunya!
Bleeding in the office
Never had bad period cramps ? Lucky you! If you had, you’d know the comfort of home can be a game-changer. Only 11% of women have no symptoms during periods, while 65% suffer at work.
With the new Office Policy, if you have your period for 4 days each month, you can’t get through it and work from home without breaking the rules.
The 3 Flexidays per quarter are not nearly enough. And getting a sick leave is not a serious option.
Not very inclusive, right?
We, the Back Market unions CGT and Solidaires, are taking the subject seriously. Are you, Thibaud? As you value inclusion, you’ll want to discuss it with us. We have some ideas. 💜
Why we take to the streets
Boys, this day is not about giving flowers to your mum or girlfriend, and telling them how wonderful they are. It is about marching next to them and recognizing their strength and resilience.
On this day, we acknowledge the struggles women face and their enduring fight for their rights.
Did you know that until 1965 in France a woman could not open a bank account without her husband’s approval?
Still today, in 2025, in 14 EU and US states, women are denied the right to get an abortion. In France, 39% of women have faced sexism at work, and 15% still do in their current job. In tech, 41% leave the sector within the first 10 years of their careers (vs 17% of men).
On March 8 we stand together, women and allies, to say we want a world where we’re all treated equally. We want a workplace safe and free of discrimination.
Come and join us in the protests in Barcelona and Paris!
