Solidarity with Back Makers United

Yesterday, management refused to recognize Back Makers United as a union.

We regret this decision, which means a vote will now have to take place on January 12th. Despite the overwhelming support our US colleagues have shown for unionization, and despite the company’s stated commitment to social dialogue, management has chosen to force a vote.

Back Market could have followed the example of Change.org and voluntarily recognized the union. Instead, management decided to follow the path of other large corporations.

We now call on management not to interfere with the election process.

We hope they will allow our colleagues to confirm their support for the union at the ballot box without obstruction. In the US, some companies like Amazon have become notorious for their union-busting tactics: propaganda, manipulation, threats, promises, and deliberate delays. But we are not Amazon.

We are worried and saddened that management has chosen to hire a notorious union-busting law firm.

This firm, BSK, has been in the anti-worker business since the 1980s and is known for unethical tactics. They’ve already forced BackMarket managers into a captive audience meeting. We know they won’t stop there.
