Strike and protests in France on Oct. 1st

By appointing Michel Barnier as Prime Minister, Emmanuel Macron seeks to continue the pro-market direction of previous governments without considering the overwhelming rejection of his policies in the last elections. This appointment does not address the social and ecological emergencies.

The same causes creating the same effects, continuing this policy would worsen precarity, divisions, inequalities, and social despair. It would further strengthen the far right.

This confirms the need to establish a balance of power to push for social and ecological justice measures:

  • Repeal the pension reform
  • Raise the minimum wage (SMIC), increase salaries, and index them to prices
  • Expand public services across the country

Solidaires calls for a cross-industry strike on October 1st in France.

Because yes, we can go on strike, at least for people under a French contract. At Back Market, we even have the option of recording an absence in ADP ourselves with the reason “strike.”
